Select League (Travel)

Frequently asked questions

 

1.    What is the difference between House and Select/Travel?

House League is recreational with a 2.5 hours weekly commitment, minimum playing time requirements, games in local gyms and one set fee paid at the time of registration.

Select/Travel League is run by Loudoun county parks & rec (PRCS), is for more competitive players with a 5-6 hour weekly commitment, discretionary playing time, additional fees (+$125.00), and longer travel for games in Loudoun County.

2.    What happens if my child does not make team?

If your child does not make a team, your child will be drafted into a house (recreational) league team.

3.    When are tryouts?  Practices?  Games?

Tryouts:  Late September and early October. Must be completed before House league evaluations begin.

Practices: Two (2) 1.5 hours a week. Days determined by coach.

Games:  Saturday or Sunday during the season. Tournament play post season  could be any day of the week. Championship is on a Sunday.

NOTE: We have no control or influence over the schedule nor venue as it is established by PRCS.

Pre-Season tournament usually in November and scrimmages throughout the season may occur. Plan on arriving 30 minutes early to location for pre-game talk & warm up. Adjust driving time accordingly.

4.    Who can join the Sterling Middle Travel team?

Only student that attend Sterling Middle school or live in the school district are eligible.

5.    Can my child play on both Sterling Middle Travel and House team?

This is only allowed if no Sterling middle travel is available and an ELBL elite team is formed.

6.    What is an ELBL Elite select/travel team?

ELBL Elite team is made up of players that have the ability to play at much higher competitive level.
The head coach will reach out to coaches house league teams for recommendations. If your child is recommended and is interested in playing on the Elite travel team, the head coach will have a new tryout for proper evaluation.
